NMC Asked To Ban Newspaper Reviews

Dr Dee Otibu-Asare, Editor-in-Chief of The New Ghanaian (TNG) magazine, has called on the National Media Commission (NMC), to ban or formulate guidelines to regulate newspaper review programmes. He observed that the way newspapers were being reviewed on television and in radio, could bring about misunderstandings, which is not the best for the country�s development. Dr Otibu-Asare was speaking at the fifth TNG Corporate Merit Awards and Dinner in Koforidua, on the theme: �Relevant Quality Education; the Cornerstone of National Development�. He said that in some developed countries, only headlines of newspaper stories were read, to encourage people to buy newspapers. Dr Otibu-Asare stressed that the NMC should regulate newspaper reviews, to prevent insults that discussants heap on each other. Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, who received an award on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr Victor Smith, commended the organisers, for taking steps to improve the media landscape.
