The Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has appealed to politicians to stop doing politics with education. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Apam, he said education held the key to the nation�s development therefore politicians must not use it just for scoring votes. �We must be serious when we talk about anything concerning education,� he said and cautioned that it must not be used for gaining cheap popularity. Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said the education system was not the best, �students cannot pass their final examinations, some of them are studying under trees and dilapidated structures, qualify teachers are not available.� He said instead of making serious efforts to improve upon all these short falls to make education qualitative, some politicians were touting free Senior High School education. He said what the nation needed now was quality education and not quantity education as some politicians are trying to propagate. �Have they thought about where the students would go after the free SHS education, have they built universities to accommodate them or have they created jobs to do after the free SHS education? Are we not going to compound the unemployment situation with the free SHS education policy?� Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said he was not against free SHS education but he felt proper planning had not been done and the nation with its current resources could not support it now. He said things done hurriedly are expensive and appealed to politicians to take their time to plan for the free SHS policy. The Chief said the problem with education in the country was not about inability to pay fees but the quality and added that parents send their children to private schools where they pay high fees instead of public schools that are free. Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea pleaded with politicians not to capitalise on the ignorance and the illiteracy rate of Ghanaians to destroy the education system of the country.
