SOME TAXI drivers in the Sunyani West district of the Brong Ahafo region who have formed an association to campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said they voted the party out in 2008 because of the motor court that was disturbing their businesses and the gas shortages they experienced that year. They said the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, John Mahama promised during a rally in Sunyani to scrap the motor court and make sure drivers got enough gas to power their vehicles but these promises had not been fulfilled. �This time round we will vote them out as we did to the NPP in 2008. No one can take as for granted,� one taxi driver said. A member of the group called Kwabena Kyeremeh mentioned this when DAILY GUIDE caught up with him at a gas filling station on Sunday struggling to get Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for work and domestic use. When the paper visited some LPG filling stations in Sunyani, there were long queues at all of them with some people fighting to get the essential gas. Mr. Kyeremeh who looked worried said since the beginning of the year they had constantly struggled to get gas to fuel their taxis. This, he said had made their work very difficult with most car owners selling their cars thereby rendering many of the drivers in the municipality jobless. �Since this gas shortage started we have been calling into radio stations to express our frustration but the government seems to have turned a blind eye to our plea. So, we will also advise ourselves on 7th December as we did to NPP in 2008,� he said. On the motor court, he disclosed that drivers were still being arrested and taken to court for the slightest offence so they had not seen any positive change in their lives, contrary to the promises made by the NDC government Mr. Kyeremeh said the association met every Sunday to strategize on how to convince passengers that board their taxis to vote for the NPP and also tell their passengers about the good things the NPP will do for Ghanaians when voted into power. The taxi driver used the opportunity to call on Ghanaians to reflect on the hardships they were going through and vote for the NPP to enhance their lives.
