Yagbonwura Okays NPP

Yagbonwura Tuntumba Borisa I, Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, has given his full blessing to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential ticket of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for this years general elections. The Yagbonwura gave his blessings after NPP Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid a courtesy call on him at the Yagbonwuras Palace at Damongo. The call on the overlord was to round up the 17-day tour of the Northern region by the NPP Vice-Presidential candidate. Speaking through his linguist to Dr. Bawumia and hundreds of his subjects, the Yagbonwura said, I am very happy that you have come here today. I am happy that you have accorded me and my kingdom the necessary respect to seek our support in the task ahead. Do know that you have my fullest blessings and backing. I wish you success and we would continue to pray for you to succeed in this battle. I know what is good when I see it and I wont waver in supporting and ensuring that the best emerges successful, he added. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, addressing the Yagbonwura earlier, thanked the overlord greatly for the warm welcome accorded him at the palace. Chiefs and elders, I am so happy to be here today because I feel I am coming home. I have come to visit my father and I bring you greetings from Nana Akufo-Addo. I also bring you greetings from the Nayiri. The Nayiri reminds me that your late father, Yagbonwura Doshi, was very close to him. As our great chief knows, we are engaged in a campaign. We are trying to get a mandate for Nana Akufo-Addo and your own son, Albert Kassim Diwura to represent you in parliament. I have therefore been going round the Northern region campaigning but it would not be complete without coming to my father, he said. Dr. Bawumia indicated that the vision of Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP is to uplift Ghanaians from the current hardships imposed on them by the ruling National Democratic Congress and to transform the Ghanaian society into a modern one of peace, prosperity and opportunities. He noted that this was the reason why the NPP had promised to make secondary school free to ensure that money does not become a barrier to education. The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate assured the Yagbonwura and the people of Gonjaland that the NPP was going to deliver on all its promises it had made to the people of Ghana and said that he would readily avail himself to the Yagbonwura and accord the King, the highest form of respect due. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, before arriving at the Yagbonwuras palace, was ushered into Damongo by hundreds of motor riders who led the NPP running mate in a procession through the main streets of the town with hundreds of jubilant supporters waving and cheering the convoy as it passed. Dr. Bawumia was accompanied to Damongo by Lepowura Alhaji MND Jawula, the National Womens Organizer of the NPP, Otiko Afisah Djaba, Sheik TB Damba, 2nd National Chairman of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo, Rita Asobayere, former National Womens Organizer of the NPP, among many others.
