Chesua Suffers NDC Victimization

An ardent National Democratic Congress (NDC) member who resigned from the ruling party for lack of development projects in the Northern regions is crying foul over what he calls attempts to victimize him politically. Karim Seidu aka Chesua defected to the opposition New Patriotic Party last year (NPP) citing the NDCs neglect of the North after he allegedly mobilized people particularly in the Tamale Central constituency to vote massively for the NDC. For defecting to the NPP, Chesua who is noted for his political organizational skills has allegedly been transferred to Drobo in the Brong Ahafo region as a supporting staff of Audit Service where he has been working since 1986. There are a lot of factors playing in the transfer, he told Daily Guide Friday. It is politically motivated. They want me to leave Tamale so that I would not be able to expose their wicked lies to the people. Although the Auditor-General, Richard D. Quartey in July issued an internal memo announcing transfers and postings in the service as part of its duties, Chesua insists it is the NDC which is behind it, saying they just want to frustrate me. Almost every NDC member in Tamale knew that I was being transferred to Drobo when my immediate bosses in the service did not know anything about it. If this is not political victimisation then what could it be? he fumed. He said he petitioned against his transfer but it was rejected by Daniel A. Syme, Audit Service Administrator in a letter signed on behalf of the Auditor-General. He said his problems mounted when he started to question the commitment of the NDC towards the development of Tamale. Almost all the major development projects you see around Tamale especially in my constituency were done by the NPP and therefore I felt ashamed about my own party and had to quit and join those who are progressive. Chesua said that he played a key role in getting Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, MP for Tamale Central and deputy Minister of Energy elected to parliament but when he realized the party was only interested in propaganda, he decided to advise himself. The NDC brought us over a billion cedis and added a land cruiser for my personal use as well as pick-up vehicles for campaigns to bring back the members I have influenced to leave but I rejected these offers, he claimed. I left the NDC purely on development grounds. No chieftaincy reasons! No financial reason! If I were greedy, I would accept the offers but I dont want to see my people suffer. The NDC met to plan that the best way to neutralize me was to send me away from Tamale. They know how I worked so hard to bring them into office and they fear I might convince a lot of people to defect to the NPP. That notwithstanding, the people of Tamale are set to vote out the NDC. They (NDC) know they have failed the people and they are going to pay dearly for only recognizing them when it is election time.
