Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party's Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has called on women in the country to take the destiny of their families into their hands by voting massively for the NPP in the December Polls. According to Mrs. Akufo-Addo, the role of women in ensuring a transformed country cannot be underestimated, hence the need for them to work hard to ensure that a government with a vision and good programmes, like the NPP, is voted into power. Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo was speaking at an interaction with Queen Mothers from the various markets in the Greater Accra region at her residence. The Queen mothers were drawn from Dodowa Market, Kokomba market, Tema Station, Pedestrian shopping mall, Agbobloshie, Dasoman, Mallam- Atta, Kaneshie, Madina, Adenta and many others. Mrs. Akufo-Addo said, �Without the active participation of women and the incorporation of women�s perspectives in all levels of decision making, the goals of equality, development and peace cannot be achieved.� The NPP, she said, is fully committed to the development, welfare and wellbeing of Ghanaian women and �we are understandably proud of our record in advancing the cause of gender equality.� Mrs. Akufo-Addo assured the market women that new market projects will be constructed to provide them with all the required facilities like a cr�che, bank, clinic and toilets to enable them carry out their activities in dignity and sound environment. She reminded the women of Nana Addo�s free SHS policy and said, �if you vote for the NPP, you will use the money for your son�s or daughter�s school fees for other profitable businesses because the government will be paying their fees.� �Not only is Nana Akufo-Addo interested in the education of the children, but the NPP has a programme that will ensure improved accessibility to the National Health Insurance scheme, jobs, bank loans, free maternal care and many others.� During the interactive session, the Market Queen Mothers complained about the high cost of doing business and the unhealthy environment they operate. Women�s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Otiko Djaba, on the other hand, told the women that, 2012 presents a great opportunity because, �there is no chance like 2012.� According to the Women�s Organiser, majority of Ghanaians are now feeling disillusioned and peeved, following what she described as �the total failure of the ruling government to fulfill its promise of empowering the women folk to become economically viable.� �They promised to make the women more comfortable, give them loans, and also empower them to become economically ok, but what do we see today?� The NPP�s women organizers and their deputies in the Greater Accra Region, and other women Members of Parliament were in attendance.
