President John Mahama has reiterated government�s commitment to end the load shedding by the end of next year.
He said this at the Public Utilities Regulation Commission stakeholders� consultation which is underway in Accra.
The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) had earlier debunked the promise made by President Mahama to make load shedding in Ghana a thing of the past stating that the situation will not end any time soon unless the country opens up other options of energy generation like waste.
President Mahama said: �Part of our objective in our manifesto is to bring to an end and make load shedding a thing of the past by the end of next year. Considering the amount of generation we expect to come into the system, and the fact that we could be reliant by the end of next year.�
�If we got what we are anticipating into the system of about 800 megawatts that should adequately cater for Ghana�s total demand,� he explained.
The President also asked the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to stick to a particular schedule for the load shedding exercise.
He stated that �there are complaints that the load management programme is not following the schedule that has been published and that is an issue I expect the stakeholder meeting to address.�
