Ghana Lags Behind In Female Representation In Governance

Womens participation in governance in Ghana still lags behind other African countries despite the introduction of the women's manifesto and other policies. With the number of women parliamentary candidates for this year's elections, it is likely that they will make up just about 10 percent of the legislature. The Director of Research at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Gertrude Zakaria Ali, who stated this, said the focus now should be encouraging political parties to give women high party offices. She said this will help groom more women for the 2016 elections. Mrs. Zakaria Ali was speaking at a news conference in Accra on Women's Agenda for Election 2012.
