Police Steps Up Security Ahead Of December Polls

The Ghana Police Service says it is stepping up security between now till the election period in December. It is part of efforts to keep security issues in check before they erupt. As part of the activities, the Service has started a series of exercises. The exercise begun on Thursday morning and will be replicated in all the regions. This operation seeks to create the awareness that the Ghana Police Service is ready and available to protect the citizenry in the unlikely occurrence of any eventuality. According to the officers on duty, as the country gears up for the presidential and parliamentary elections, some unscrupulous people will be harboring all sorts of ideas which are likely to threaten the safety of the public. The police inspected road worthy certificates, driving licenses and also looked out for worn-out tyres. In addition, the officers were on the lookout for drivers who had exceeded their speed limits. The Inspector General of Police recently called for a suspension of the random motor checks. The suspension was as a result of public outcry that the numerous inspections on roads made them uncomfortable. The Dansoman Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwadwo Antwi Tabi says there are very good reasons to reintroduce the checks. The Police Service is advising all well- meaning Citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious happenings around them. They also cautioned members of the public to operate within the laws of Ghana in order to avoid getting into trouble with the police.
