Defunct Western Railway To Be Rehabilitated

The Defunct Western Railways in Sekondi -Takoradi is to be revived and rehabilitated to its former status. The Western Railways used to be very busy with trains which carry the country�s exports like Cocoa, Manganese and Timber to neighbouring towns. President John Mahama who stated this noted that $ 500m has already been sourced from China specifically for the revamping of the Western Railway lines. He said the contractor will mobilise soon and work will begin. Work on the Sekondi-Kojokrom rail lines has also started. The President was addressing residents, party supporters and sympathisers at Sekondi-Takoradi as he embarks on a Western regional campaign tour. Earlier, President Mahama inaugurated two Hangars, a Simulator and two Maritime DA 42 Aircrafts and other projects for the Ghana Air force at the Takoradi Air force Base. He has also inaugurated and handed over two Ships to the Ghana Navy at the Sekondi Naval Base. The two ships have been named after two prominent Ghanaian Warriors, Yaa Asantewaa and Naa Gbewaa, founder of the Mole-Dagbon Kingdom. The Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, maintained that the need to resource the Ghana Armed Forces is a constitutional obligation which the government will not relent in fulfilling.
