EC Should Explain To Us Why Other Parties Were Disqualfied - Abu Jinapor

Abu Jinapor, spokesperson of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the Electoral Commission (EC) needs to come clean on reasons leading to the disqualification of some political parties. According to him, looking at how rumours are circulating like wild fire that the EC favoured some political parties against others; there is the need to make an official statement to protect its credibility, adding, weve only heard the side of the political parties that were disqualified and not the EC. Speaking to Shamima Muslim on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana, Abu Jinapor said: The Electoral Commission should come out officially to state the reason why these political parties were disqualified: then Ghanaians will begin to appreciate the work of the Electoral Commission more. We might agree or disagree with them but the silence will not help. It doesn't augur well for the credibility of the Electoral Commission - the credibility of the EC is very important According to him if the EC refuses to clear the air, the impression will be created that some particular group has been treated unfairly and others favoured. He asserted that how the EC treats political parties is a matter of public concern; so the EC should engage the public, the National Democratic Party (NDP) et al and explain to them where they went wrong. We have an interest in ensuring that the EC treats everybody fairly and so to that extent I think the electoral commission owes some duty to come out to explain their position he added.
