December 7 PollsEC Ill-Prepared

The presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Abu Sakara, has stated that the Electoral Commission is ill-prepared and cannot conduct successful elections without disenfranchising a section of Ghanaians. Dr. Sakaras nomination forms were nearly rejected by the EC last week because the details of two of his nominees were not captured in the ECs data base. According to him, if this challenge was identified in simple nomination process, then the elections will be front with many difficulties. He said: When you have people who have valid voter ID cards and those card numbers are not in the system and the Electoral Commission admitted that much in their statement today which said that they are still reconciling and hope that people wont be disenfranchised on December 7 because by then they will have all the numbers in the system, what does this mean? This is a statement of self-indictment because what you are saying that you were prepared to disenfranchise the flag-bearer based on unfinished work but that card could well be a card that is valid except that it is not yet in the system, he explained. The CPP flag-bearer urged journalists in the country to improve their power of analysis to see the picture and the implications of the bigger picture instead of being sensational.
