PAC Suspends Sitting Indefinitely

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has suspended sitting indefinitely after Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour failed to appear before the committee to assist in the public enquiry into the payment of GHc 51 million to Alfred Woyome as judgment debt. The Committee said in view of the AGs reluctance to furnish the committee with important documents, it would not attend to any other reports until the Speaker of Parliament compels Dr. Kumbour to appear before it. The Vice Chairman of the PAC, Kwaku Agyemang Manu explained that the decision is to ensure a good precedence is set on the matter. We didnt want a bad precedent to be set. If we go ahead to work, that means that anybody can now go and decide whether to appear or not or whether to give us documentation or not and we want to avoid that, he said. Mr. Agyemang Manu added that until we see to the solution of this sort of challenge, it wouldnt be fair for us to call in the witness. We dont want the image of Parliament to be brought down.
