Lightning Strikes Student Dead

Lightning struck the Okomfo Anokye Senior High School (SHS) at Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region, setting a second year female student on fire and killing her in the process. The deceased, Angelina Agyei, 19, described as a devout Christian, was on her way to worship her Lord. Her remains had been deposited at the morgue at the Mampong Hospital pending autopsy. Another female student who was seriously injured is receiving treatment at the hospital. A source told graphic.com.gh that the incident happened at about 6pm on Thursday after a heavy downpour in the town. The two students who were in boarding house, were members of the Scripture Union, a Christian organisation. According to the source, they were on their way to attend a meeting of the organisation outside campus when the disaster struck. The source said when they reached the main entrance to the school, the lightning struck at them. Just then the uniform, which Angelina wore was seen in flames as she and the friend fell on the ground. People rushed to the scene and attempted a rescue mission but it was too late as Angelina who had received some burns died on the spot. Her colleague was, however, rushed to hospital where she is receiving treatment.
