CID Boss Begged Me Prophet Nkansah

The Founder and flagbearer of the New Vision Party (NVP), Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah says he remains a complainant in the alleged bribery case involving two Electoral Commission (EC) officials. The self-styled pastor denied assertions that he was arrested by the police and detained at the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters on Wednesday. He said the Director General of Police CID apologized to him after the media declared him a wanted man, stressing that he reported the bribery case at the Odorkor Police Station and was assisting officers with investigation. He told Hello Fm in Kumasi that he was neither made to bail himself nor asked to report to the police during the meeting at the police CID conference room. Prophet Nkansah alleged that two EC officials, Isaac Kofi Asumaning, Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Director in charge of Logistics, Emmanuel Asante Kissi collected an amount of GH1,600 from him to facilitate his registration as a presidential candidate for the December polls. According to him, some moments after his partys General Secretary presented the GH1,600 bribery money to Mr. Asante Kissi, his colleague, Mr. Asumaning called him to confirm the receipt of the money and asked when the remaining balance would be paid. He told listeners that the EC Director of Elections demanded the remaining amount on Thursday when he and his partys General Secretary travelled to the commissions office to file nomination forms. The NVP flagbearer disclosed that Mr. Asumaning personally took him to his office where he (Prophet Nkansah) gave him an additional GH1,000 meant for the commission members of the EC. He claimed the official refused to take the money, insisting the money was peanut for his boss, Dr. Afari Gyan. The self-styled pastor claimed Mr. Asumaning said the EC had rejected those political parties which failed to give the commission some inducement. Prophet Nkansah is currently facing several fraud-related charges at different police stations. He has been arrested several times in that regard. Two weeks ago, a bench warrant was issued by an Accra Circuit Court for his arrest for allegedly defrauding one Aisha Nurudeen to a tune of GH19,000. The embattled director of elections denied ever receiving any financial inducement from the prophet. In an interview with an Accra-based radio station, Citi Fm on Tuesday, he stated, I am surprised and shocked about this allegation; I have not demanded anything from this man. I dont know what the man is up to. I dont know anything about it. I have not taken any money from anybody. Sources close to the police said Prophet Nkansah was granted a police enquiry bail after being interrogated over the EC bribery saga. It is unclear if the man at the centre of the scandal would be prosecuted. Public Affairs Director at the Accra Regional Police, Freeman Tettey, said even though the CID has taken over the case, the police would offer the needed assistance in terms of investigation.
