Vice Presidential candidates whose parties have representation in parliament will today take their turn at the IEA debate in Takoradi. All the four candidates have indicated their readiness for the debate. Speaking to journalists before leaving for Takoradi, Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur said he is fully prepared for the encounter. The General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told Radio Ghana that the NPP's candidate is a practical man and will speak on the manifesto of the party. The CPP running mate Nana Akosua Sarpong Kumamkuma says she expects to build on the good record of her candidate Dr, Abu Sakara. She told Radio Ghana that the CPP has a track record which she will defend. An aid to the PNC leader Adama Akane also said the PNC running mate is fully armed for the debate. The Western Regional Police Command says it is fully prepared to ensure safety of all political parties and supporters participating in the IEA Debate today in Takoradi. Speaking to Radio Ghana's correspondent in Sekondi, the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Ninson said it has mapped up security strategies to handle unforeseen eventualities to ensure the success of the programme. He added that supporters of the various parties will be protected. Meanwhile some residents in the Western Regional capital Sekondi, have been expressing varied expectations from the Vice Presidential IEA Debate in Takoradi. Top on the issues are sanitation, education, job creation, agriculture, peaceful elections and the debate of whether the region will have a fair share of the oil find. They are expecting the aspirants to articulate their mission and vision when voted into power and desist from personal attacks. Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur arrived in Takoradi Monday afternoon to participate in the debate. In another development, the Executive Director of the IEA, Mrs Jean Mensah says the campaign teams of the Presidential Candidates proposed that they stand during the debates. She said the format used for the presidential candidates will be the same for the Vice Presidential aspirants. Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mrs Mensah noted that all is set for the Vice Presidential debate to be held in Takoradi today. She said areas such as good governance, natural resources and social issues will be tackled.
