Rescue Mission At Collapsed Melcom May Take Four More Days - Minister

Rescue mission on the collapsed Melcom building at Achimota may take about three to four days to complete, Mr Robert Joseph Mettle-Nunoo, Deputy Minister of Health, said on Thursday. A combined team of rescuers from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Organisation, National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and an eight-member delegation from Israel are carrying out the rescue. Mr Mettle-Nunoo said the team was working hard to rescue more people. He said the team had to dig the layers in bits in order not to aggravate injuries and that had slowed the process. According to Mr Prince Billy Anaglate, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Fire Service (GNFS), 76 people had been rescued and that nine more bodies had been detected under the rubble and efforts were being made to retrieve them.
