Melcom Tragedy: Occupants Of Surrounding Buildings Evacuate

A District Magistrate Court has ordered that all occupants of buildings situated around the collapsed Melcom Shopping Mall opposite the Achimota Neoplan Assembly Plant vacate their buildings. This is to help city authorities to ascertain the structural integrity of the buildings. The court order secured by the State said: �The owners and or leases of the premises are also hereby ordered to ensure that no member of the public including the workers and inhabitants are however allowed to access the building until the appropriate structural adjustments and building permits are obtained from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.� Currently, Fidelity Bank which shares a compound with the collapsed Melcom building is vacating the premises. The bank has been closed to its customers and the general public since the incident occurred on Wednesday. Others who have been served with this notice include Standard Chartered Bank and Nana Boadu and family - a residential apartment.
