Its time For A Northerner To Be President - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has declared it is time for a Northerner to be elevated to the Presidency of Ghana. According to him, people from the North are no longer satisfied with a vice presidential position. Speaking in Zuarungu over the weekend on his campaign tour of the Upper East region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate stated that for almost 12 years, we have tasted the Vice Presidency. It is no longer exciting; its no longer what we want. He challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make their vice presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the Presidential candidate if they hope to win in the three Northern regions of Ghana. He said: If the NPP think that they want the votes from here, they should put my brother Bawumia; let me and him contest the number one position. If they want to win here, they should put him in number one and let the two of us contest and then they will get something from here. At a stop in Bongo, the President also indicated an NDC government will ensure the elimination of the use of Kerosene for lighting by 2016. Our eventual intention, especially with passage of the Renewable Energy Bill, is to use solar energy for the communities that we cant reach. So the communities that we cant reach will also be connected with solar power, he promised. President Mahama said: In 2016, we want to ensure that we eliminate the use of Kerosene for lighting. People should have simple solar devices that they can place in the sun and in the night, they can have eight to 10 hours of light.
