Ato Quarshie Snubs Gen. Mosquito

Dr. Ato Quarshie, former Minister for Roads and Highways, finally launched his campaign after several attempts by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia to prevent him from contesting the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) seat. Hundreds of supporters in the area joined him to launch the campaign amidst drumming and dancing at Marine Park at Elmina, where he hails from. The event started at about 1pm and ended around 5pm. Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Dr. Quarshie described himself as a good shepherd, who will not sit aloof for his sheep to be scattered around. I entered this contest to unite my people for the betterment of our dear party, he said. He expressed concern about the low communal spirit in the area, adding that he would revive it to ensure total development. One of his leaders, Kwesi Thompson advised President John Dramani Mahama to accept the candidature of Dr. Quarshie to redeem the party. He however condemned Mr. Asiedu Nkesia for interfering in the activities of Dr. Quarshie and advised him not to disrespect the followers of Dr. Quarshie. Most speakers pleaded with the NDC supporters, who had defected to NPP and other political parties to join him to capture power to continue the good works. In an interview, some supporters condemned attempts by some national executives to entice the followers of Dr. Quarshie with money and other items to assist Dr. Joseph S. Annan to win the seat.
