Dr. Kwaku Kakari, who is in charge of Western Regional Public Health Unit of the Ghana Health Service, on Tuesday cautioned metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies not to divert monies allocated for malaria control for other purposes. Dr. Kakari said this at the launch of Power Wind Pamasonik mosquito trap machine, a new intervention in the malaria control programme, a collaborative efforts between the Western Regional Health Directorate and the Ghana Coalition of NGOs. The machine, certified by the Ghana Standard Authority and approved by the Ghana Health Service, serves as an added strategy in dealing with mosquitoes. He said this complimentary strategy could be used hand in hand with the long lasting insecticide treated nets and other repellents. Mr. Albert Arthur, the inventor of the machine, said his effort was as a result of mosquitoes in his hometown coupled with persistent power cuts by his landlord. Mr. Arthur said it took over nine years to produce the machine and that he faced frustrations and disappointment by well-meaning Ghanaians but found a Nigerian businessman, Mr Isaac Igoma, Director of Pamasonik Home Appliance Limited, who bought into the idea and helped his dream to materialize. The inventor therefore entreated young people to push forward their dreams no matter the disruption. Mr. Igoma said Africa must stand on its own and face its own developmental challenges.
