Load shedding End Date Unknown - ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said it cannot determine when the current load shedding exercise will end as it still awaits supply of power from VRA. The date for the ending of the load shedding programme by ECG remains unknown despite President Mahama's pronouncements it will end by the middle of November. Speaking to Citi News, Director of Operations of ECG Tetteh Okine said ECG can only hope VRA generates enough power for the load shedding to end. The producers of power have told us that hopefully by the end of November it [load shedding] would be over or better still when the gas is able to flow through the pipeline for Asorgli to work, then we are assured that we have some quantum and can say that the load shedding has ended, he said. Mr. Okine further explained, Once we get to that stage, if the need arises, then we need to shed load. Otherwise the groups are there. If it is your day and we have enough power, there will be no load shedding. We are basically following the same programme which we had in October. We have extended it to November but we always explain that we have that problem there but as and when the power is available, there will be no load shedding, he added.
