Fire Guts Dannex Drugs

Fire on Wednesday afternoon gutted one of the warehouses of Dannex Ghana Limited, manufacturers and distributors of pharmaceutical products in North Industrial Area, Accra. The fire, which started around 12:10pm, destroyed a substantial amount of the companys raw and finished pharmaceutical products in the warehouse. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. In an interview with Daily Guide, the Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Prince Billy Anaglate, said they got a distress call around 12:15pm that fire had gutted the warehouse of Dannex Company. He said they quickly dispatched their men to the premises and it took them almost an hour to bring the fire under control. Explaining why it took them an hour to bring the situation under control, he said the pressure in the two water hydrants within the premises was so low, and that affected their operations, adding, We didnt want to also destroy some of the products which were not affected by the fire with water, so we were a little bit cautious. Mr. Anaglate said the cause of the fire was yet to be known but a full-scale investigation would be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak and advice the company appropriately to avoid future occurrences. The Managing Director of Dannex Company Ltd, Yaw Opare Asamoah, told DAILY GUIDE that he was in a meeting with the management of the company when he got information that the warehouse was on fire. He said they were yet to know the cause of the fire, adding, They were able to salvage some of the products and machines in the warehouse but most of them got consumed by the fire.
