Ghana�s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mr. Dan Abodakpi, has cautioned the youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be mindful of attempts being made by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disenfranchise its members and supporters in the Volta Region.
According to Mr. Abodakpi, authentic reports he had received indicated that the NPP had dispatched its agents to the Volta Region to buy voter ID cards at the cost of GH�20 from its owners. The aim, he alleged, was to prevent the youth from voting on Election Day.
He gave the caution at the campaign launch of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Tongu, Mr. Joe Gidisu, who is also the Minister for Roads and Highways, at Adidome.
He asked the NDC supporters not to fall for the new trap of their political opponents in the Volta Region, because the monies being given out would not help them.
Mr. Abodakpi commended the Central Tongu Constituency branch of the party for maintaining peace among members. �You have taken a bold initiative to come this far, thus, the togetherness of purpose has today culminated in some of the amenities you see in the area, through the support of the MP,� he said.
Mr. Abodakpi noted that the development needs of the people in the area were being tackled gradually, and pointed out that electricity and other needs of the people would be addressed.
He observed that the existence of electricity and other social amenities would stem the tide of rural urban drift, thereby creating an enabling environment to establish small-scale industries.
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Ametefe, urged the youth to stay focused, and not do anything that would disturb the peace in the country.
He called on the youth to work hard to ensure that President John Mahama and the NDC retain power in the forthcoming general elections.
The Deputy Minister for Transport, Mrs. Dzifa Ativor, told the jubilant supporters that Mr. Gidisu had done a lot for the area, in terms of development, therefore, there was the need for them to retain him in Parliament.
