Businessman Kills Girlfriend

Residents of Gyankama, a town along the Aburi-Peduase road, were greeted with grief early Tuesday morning when a 34-year-old businessman allegedly murdered his girlfriend in cold blood. The suspect, Kojo Agyiry, allegedly used a hammer to inflict several wounds on the body of Ama Dade, 28, at 2.30 a.m. After the gruesome act in the deceased's room, he is said to have taken a container suspected to contain petrol to set the house ablaze. However, the timely intervention by some residents of the area who had been attracted by Dade's loud screams prevented him from carrying out his intention. The suspect is also said to have drunk poison in a bid to kill himself. Agyiry had two children with his girlfriend but both have passed away. Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Affairs Director of the Eastern Regional Police Command, ASP Yaw Nketia- Yeboah, said the Mampong District Police received a distress call from a resident of Gyankama that a businessman had allegedly murdered his girlfriend in a room in the town. He stated that policemen were deployed from Aburi to the scene, where they met a weak-looking Agyiry in Dade's room. The police also found multiple wounds on Dade's body, which was found in a pool of blood. He stated that the police rushed the two to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong-Akuapem, where Dade was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspect, who was in critical condition, was admitted at the same hospital. Mr Nketia-Yeboah told the Daily Graphic that police investigations led to the discovery of a bloodstained hammer and a bedspread in a saloon vehicle at the scene. He said the police were yet to unravel the motive for the killing in their investigations.
