A group calling itself the Coalition of Women against Drugs Addiction (COWAD) is calling on the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make a bold pronouncement on his commitment to fight narcotic drug trade. According to COWAD, Nana Addo �swerves any question on the fight against the drug trade and usage in Ghana,� citing the recent IEA Presidential Debate as one of such situations. The group is therefore calling Nana Addo to take a clear stance against the menace. COWAD is also calling on all flagbearers to undergo medical tests and make it public as in the case of Dr. Nduom. The Coalition of Women against Drugs Addiction has observed with dissatisfaction the attempt by some political leaders, most especially the NPP leader, Nana Akuffo Addo to swerve any question on the fight against the drug trade and usage in Ghana. We watched Mr. Akuffo Addo�s IEA evening encounter with a lot of disappointment, when he answered that he will use free SHS to fight against the drug trade. This has deepened the perception that Mr. Akuffo Addo is involved in the Drug business. And as women we feel it is important to protect our children from drug abuse, so it is our heart desire that government shows enough commitment to the fight against drugs. We are however disappointed by the open display of non commitment to the fight against drugs by the NPP and their flag bearer. A critical analysis of the NPP manifesto revealed no concrete solution to the menace. The COWAD believes the usage or non usage of drugs by political leaders have greater influence on the youth and their indulgence in the act or otherwise. We therefore advice politicians not to sweep under the carpet, public request for toxicology test by all Presidential and Parliamentary candidates. We will encourage all other presidential candidates to follow the significant example by Dr. Nduom to undergo a medical examination and publish the results. However we will wish that toxicology is included on the list of the examination which must be mandatory. The coalition wishes to submit that, the public disclosure of medical status of Presidential Candidates must be made mandatory for all aspirants. Candidates must undergo mandatory toxicology test! The Coalition believes that, this will help secure the future of our children and grand children, because then they may not be looking up to our leaders and be picking bad habits from them.
