Special Voting Tomorrow

Policemen and other security officers assigned special duties for the elections would be voting tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4 ahead of the general elections on December 7. This was disclosed by the Director General of Police Operations, COP John Kudalor. The Police boss, who met with tens of thousands of security personnel from the Police, Fire, Immigration, CEPS and Prisons Services at the Independence Square on Sunday, said they would be deployed on Wednesday, December 5 ahead of the Friday polls on December 7. He urged officers to give off their best as professionals while on duty during the elections, adding that they would be provided with daily ration of GH�30 for the five days and three square meals during the elections. He pleaded with those who had funny ring tones stop the usage of such ring tones and remain non-partisan. Further he asked them to reject gifts from political parties and remain urging them not be disrupted by the public. In all about 10, 000 security officers would embark on various assignments countrywide on December 7 including some 4,000 from Accra. They are expected to augment the strength of personnel in the various regions. Aside that COP Kudalor revealed in an interview that all 11 schedule officers at the Police Headquarters in Accra had been assigned to the 11 administrative regions of the Ghana Police Service. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Alhassan Mohamed has been assigned to Central Region; Director General Administration, COP Rose Bio Atinga, Accra Region; Director General Operations, COP John Kudalor, Eastern Region; Director General Human Resource Development, Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, Western Region and Director General Research and Planning, COP David Asante Apeatu, Upper East. The rest are Director General Services, COP Frank Adu Poku, Ashanti Region; Director General Finance, DCOP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Volta Region; Director General Medical, DCOP Dr. Godfred Asiamah, Upper West while Director General Welfare, DCOP Wilhelmina Ayim, for Tema Region; Director General Technical, DCOP Rev. David Nenyi Ampah Benin for Brong-Ahafo Region and Director General Legal, ACP Ken Yeboah would be in charge of the Northern Region. The senior officers would mainly play supervisory role while they partner the regional commands to ensure peaceful elections. A Deputy Director at the Prisons Service, Stephen Coffie reiterated the need for the men to act professionally in their work. He said the officers should not be disrupted to leave their duty points and should refuse food or any gift from political parties, stressing that they should not do anything that may compromise the election. Finally the personnel were asked to file good reports. Superintendent Peter Ndekugri urged them to be humane and civil in their dealings with the public. The Deputy Director of the Community Policing Unit, Superintendent Kwasi Ofori prayed for the safety of the all personnel as well as the entire country, noting that Ghana would remain a beacon of hope in the Sub-region. The security persons are supposed to converge on the Independence Square on Wednesday dawn from 2:00 am to begin their assignment.
