NDC Urges Supporters To Remain Calm

The NDC has urged members of the party not to indulge in any form of violence, even in the face of extreme provocation from the opposition NPP. A statement signed by the Deputy General Secretary of the party, George Lawson said the Police have confirmed that one supporter of the NDC was stabbed at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The Party has also received complaints of unprovoked attacks on its supporters across the country. According to media reports thousands of disgruntled NPP supporters have besieged some parts of Accra and other parts of the country. The NDC views these unfortunate developments as threats to the country's peace and national security. The statement believes the conduct of the NPP supporters emanates from leadership failure. It said NDC will not want to believe that the action by these perpetrators is a confirmation of the NPP's all die be die declaration by their flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo. It said the NDC has confidence and trust in the security agencies and while commending them for their efforts in curbing any potential disturbances, it urges them to step up their operations to protect lives and property. The leadership of the NDC assured supporters that the party has been rightly declared winners by the Electoral Commission, the only body constitutionally mandated to declare Presidential results after election. The NDC therefore appeals to its numerous followers all over the country to remain calm and resolute and restrain from any act of provocation and retaliation that have the tendency to trigger clashes and violence in the country.
