THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has set aside GH�5,000 as a reward for anyone who can assist it to trace attackers of the NDC chairman for Bekwai, Salisu Musa. Musa was allegedly attacked violently by some unknown person who reportedly hit him with a hammer which resulted in the victim suffering a broken jaw. The incident was said to have occurred just after the December 7 elections but so far nobody has been arrested in connection with the matter. DCOP Augustine Gyenning, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, announcing the ransom, said the police were leaving no stone unturned in their bid to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book. He therefore appealed to the general public to feed the police with vital information leading to the arrest of the runaway suspects, reiterating the police�s readiness to reward anyone who would assist them to find the perpetrators. DCOP Gyenning mentioned double registration and assault as some of the predominant cases that characterized the just ended polls in the region, noting that his outfit was currently investigating about 11 of such cases. On double registration, he said one Yakubu Iddrisu, 34, was arrested for attempting to cast his ballot with a voter ID card bearing the name of Mohammed Sadat, at a polling center at Ash Town, though he had already registered at Sepe Buokrom. DCOP Gyenning said Yakubu Iddrisu had been charged and that he would soon be hauled to court. One Kusi Bernard, 23, the police capo said, was also arrested at the Freeman Methodist Polling Station at Suame to vote but the electoral officers detected that he had also registered at Freeman College with the name Indiana Kusi Bernard. He would be hauled to court soon. Still on double registration, he said Kofi Adongo, 22, was detected to have registered twice when he visited the Kumawuman Bank Poling Station, Ahinsan, to vote. Adongo was put before court on December 14, 2012, where he pleaded guilty to the charge, DCOP Gyenning said, adding that the suspect�s sentence was deferred to yesterday. As regards assault cases, the police capo noted that on the voting day, around 8am, a misunderstanding ensued between Asiedu Yaw Gyamfi of the NDC and some voters at the Agyeimpra polling station, Offinso. In the process, Asiedu Yaw Gyamfi was hit with an implement by Kwadwo Adu on the forehead and the victim was rushed to the hospital. The police are investigating the matter. DCOP Gyenning noted that on election day, about 11am, Joshua Kwame Fugah, election monitoring officer for the GCPP, accompanied by Hopeson Keku and Evans Desmond Konadu, NDC election monitor, visited the RC primary polling station at Ayeduase. A mob accused them of coming to snatch ballot boxes and attacked them with stones and sticks. Hopeson Keku and Evans Desmond Konadu escaped unhurt, but Joshua Fugah sustained injuries on the forehead, head and hand. He fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The victims� Hyundai Tucson private vehicle with registration number AW 5200-11 was vandalized by the mob. Fugah�s Ipad 3, HTC mobile phone and other petty items were stolen from his car. The victim was admitted and discharged later and the case was reported to the police who are investigating the matter. DCOP Gyenning said suspects Ampofo Twumasi, 44, Adolf Amankwa, 30, and Akwasi Oppong, 32, have so far been apprehended by the police and they are assisting in investigations.
