PNC Has Not Officially Conceded; Party Chair Cautions Ayariga

The Peoples National Convention is criticizing its flagbearer for what they say is his ill-advised concession two days after the December polls. Hassan Ayariga described the elections as free and fair and also called on the opposition New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo to do the same. But his party says his concession was not sanctioned by National Executives. Party Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan is therefore asking the flagbearer to desist from making any further comment without the consent of the party executives. I am the chairman and leader of the party. I am not aware of this happening (concession) before he did the press conference. We are waiting for these holidays to be over and then we call executive meeting and address all outstanding issues. When we meet as national executives we will position everybody in their right place. We will understand him as our former flagbearer for 2012 and then we will move on. So anytime he wants to do any press conference which will not affect the credibility of the party, well he can do it as an individual, he told Joy News Hannah Odame. The Policy Analyst of the party, Atik Mohammed in agreement with the party chair said the concession by Hassan Ayariga was baffling and unilateral. According to him, the party has serious concerns with the figures from its strongholds and wondered why the flagbearer conceded without having their concerns addressed. But the flagbearer has dismissed the claims by the party heads. His spokesperson, Akanni Adams told Joy News the concession by Hassan Ayariga was done with the approval of the party executives. He said the General Secretary as well as the National Organiser were aware of the concession, adding the party chair was not immediately available.
