Prez Mahama Assures Ghanaians: There're Better Times Ahead

President John Dramani Mahama has ushered Ghanaians into Year 2013 with a message of hope of better times ahead, in spite of the challenges confronting the country now. In his New Year message to the nation, President Mahama affirmed his resolve to galvanise the energies of every Ghanaian into a stronger force to continue to build a better Ghana. He has accordingly urged Ghanaians to commit themselves to hard work, strong faith and determination to turn the challenges confronting the nation into opportunities in the years ahead. The President said he would pursue programmes "aimed at creating jobs, investing in people, expanding the frontiers of democracy and ultimately improving the living conditions of the ordinary citizen". President Mahama said he looked forward to leading a united Ghana in which we are each other's keeper. He called on the youth in particular to prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities that would be made available to them, saying, "There are better times ahead." President Mahama thanked God for protecting and guiding the nation through a free and fair electioneering process in 2012, recalling that the elections were applauded by the global community. He said last year could be described as one of the most eventful years in the history of Ghana. "We remember with deep sorrow the unfortunate demise of two of our illustrious leaders former President John Atta Mills and former Vice-President Aliu Mahama whose passing rocked the nation and threw us all into a state of despair," he said. He thanked every Ghanaian for the tremendous outpouring of support, kindness and love that were displayed even in the midst of the nations collective grief.
