Why Does NDC Want To Join In A Suit Filed By Blockheads?

The Youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Young Patriots, has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama accusing him of being the architect behind the decision by the Ghana Police Service to secure a court injunction to restrain them from embarking on their intended demonstration, wondering why a mere demonstration should be taken personal by a President if not for the simple reason that he is embarrassed for stealing the peoples mandate. The group had earlier planned to hit the streets on Tuesday as a sign of protest at the alleged rigging of the December electoral results which saw President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge as the winner of the Presidential elections. They however called of the demonstration after the Police secured a restraining order from the court preventing them from demonstrating. At a press conference held in Accra today, addressed by their Chairman, Richard Nyamah, the Young Patriots held the view that the President's level of intolerance to divergent views is unsurpassed and accused him (President Mahama) of engineering the police's decision to stop them from embarking on their intended action. They also questioned why the police, which claimed it did not have enough personnel to protect the demonstrators, could deploy all the necessary accoutrements to guard an empty Obra Spot where the protestors had planned to converge. Events leading to the restraining order point to an increasingly intolerable police force forced to act in accordance with the will and persona of the President. Please note that before this order, the police forcefully broke into the collation centre of the NPP when evidence was being collected to go to court....Further note that, AFAG, a pressure group, just about a week ago, was also stopped by the police force from demonstrating against President John Dramani Mahama. The President level of intolerance to divergent views is unsurpassed. Ladies and gentlemen, the most absurd of reasons given us by the police for not allowing us to demonstrate was when the Regional Police Command told us we will embarrass the President should we demonstrate on the 8th because visiting Heads of State will still be in the country. It is unfortunate that in 2013, a mere demonstration will be taken personal by a President who makes sure he is not embarrassed for stealing the peoples mandate, the group said at the press conference. The pro-NPP pressure group also fired salvos at the ruling partys General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who stated in an interview with PeaceFM that the NPP are no astute legal luminaries but a bunch of blockheads" masquerading as bookworms for suing the President, moments after the opposition party filed the petition challenging the electoral results at the Supreme Court. In what can best pass for a sarcastic shot, the Young Patriots wondered If the NPP are blockheads since they do not know that a President cannot be sued in Ghana (Aseidu Nketia), what is the NDCs Tsatsu Tsikata doing leading a group of lawyers to enjoin the President and the NDC to the NPPs suit? The group also urged President Mahama to make a public pronouncement to the effect that he will abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court as done by his closest challenger, like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo of the NPP. Ladies and gentlemen, it is also very important to note that the President John Dramani Mahama has had two national occasions in the spate of three days to address the nation and the world at large;... On both occasions, the President refused to address the single most important matter today in Ghana; the Supreme Court case by the NPP and whether he will abide by the ruling of the court. This is no accidentMr James Agyenim Boateng, the spokesperson of the transition team, speaking on BBC when the case was filed by the NPP refused to answer the question three times when it was posed to him.If the NPP are "blockheads" since they do not know that a President cannot be sued in Ghana (Aseidu Nketia), what is the NDC s Tsatsu Tsikata doing leading a group of lawyers to enjoin the President and the NDC to the NPPs suit?... We wish to call on all well meaning Ghanaians, to as a matter of urgency impress upon President John Dramani Mahama to make a public pronouncement to the effect that he will abide by the ruling of the Supreme court like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has done," Richard Nyamah of Young Patriots said.
