Police Explain Continued Presence At EC Headquarters

More than a month after elections were held in Ghana, police officers are still positioned around the premises of the Electoral Commission probably to prevent any attack on the facility. Their presence is raising concerns among some members of the public who wonder why the police are still stationed at the EC headquarters. A visit to the EC headquarters reveals a police armoured vehicle and two other police vehicles stationed in the junction leading to the office. A number of police personnel are also stationed near the area to protect lives and properties. But the police administration has revealed to XYZ News the presence of their men around the EC headquarters is part of an election coverage strategy which ends in April this year. The police administration however says it will still continue to provide security for the EC even after April since it is one of the most important public institution in the county. The Director of Public Affairs at the police headquarters, DSP Cephas Arthur told XYZ News the public has nothing to fear about with the presence of a team of police men guarding the EC premises. The EC is a vital state installation and there is a need for the provision of security, so there is nothing so untoward about the provision of security at the EC, he said. He debunked assertions that the police are there because of fears that people might attack the EC officials.
