Man Imprisoned For 14 Years Without Trial

The Human Rights Courts is expected to make a final ruling on the Francis Ajare Case. Francis Ajare a 41 year old who was imprisoned for fourteen years at the Nsawam Minimum Security Prisons without trial is seeking 20 thousand Cedis from the government as compensation. Francis was arrested as part of a police swoop at the La Beach in Accra and thrown into jail and denied he the basic right of having a judge rule on his involvement in the said crime he allegedly committed. His case has been at the Human Rights Court for over a year while the attorney general�s department keeps delaying the process. Speaking to Citi News, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu who represents Francis Ajare says they expect highly of today�s appearance. �As the case stands now, the Attorney General has no answer to our suit and we are looking forward to the judge taking our evidence to grant us the various releases we have asked for,� he stated. Lawyer Sosu further stated, �We are expecting that the judge, giving cognizance to the rules of court that when actions come before the court, they should be tried speedily and expeditiously will just go ahead and listen to the evidence of our client so he will grant us the remedies that we seek because it is clear that the Attorney General has no defense to our action�.
