The Jomoro District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has started refunding money to parents and guardians who paid registration fees of their wards in junior high school to the directorate. This follows the payment of the money by Saigah Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation promoting education in the district. Mr Philip N. Kangah, Assistant Director in-charge of Supervision at the Jomoro District Office of the Ghana Education Service, made this known when he refunded registration fees of some third year JSS candidates of the Bonyere Educational Circuit to their parents at a meeting at New Kabenlasuazo. He said the directorate had already refunded the registration fees of the final year candidates in Mangyea, Half Assini, Tikobo No 1, Samenye, Elubo and Twenene circuits to their parents at similar meetings. Mr Kangah urged parents yet to receive their refund to exercise restraint because the donation came when schools were on vacation. He explained that parents and guardians paid the registration fees to the district education office through their head teachers and with payment of the money by the NGO, there was the need to pay them back. According to Mr Kangah sometime in December last year, the NGO donated 19,000 Ghana cedis to the district education office to cover registration fees for 1,660 candidates of the 2012/2013 Basic Education Certificate Examination from 67 public and private schools in the district. He said the amount forms part of its contribution towards the promotion of education in the district and that it also covers some candidates who were re-sitting their examination this year. Mr Philip Amah Buah, Bonyere Methodist JSS Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association, on behalf of parents and guardians expressed his gratitude to the NGO and appealed of others to emulate the example.
