Government To Build 170,000 Housing Units

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister designate for Water Resources, Works and Housing said the nation is faced with a housing deficit of 1.7million housing units while government intends to provide decent accommodation to the people. He said to address the situation 170,000 housing units are needed every year. Alhaji Dauda said this in reaction to questions thrown to him when he was vetted by the Appointment Committee as a Presidential nominee for the sector. He called on Ghanaians to adopt the use of Pozolana cement which is more affordable and durable. Alhaji Dauda, Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, said State Housing Corporation would soon complete some housing units, which would be completed by June. On water supply, Alhaji Dauda said demand had gone higher than supply saying, 152 million gallons of water is produced a day with a demand of 237 million nationwide. He said efforts would be made to invest in the distribution network and replace old pipelines while closer look would be taken at the volume of water produced to be able to meet the needs of the people especially in the urban areas. He urged developers to seek building permits and go through the processes of acquiring the necessary facilities from Ghana Water Company Limited and it would take only one month to get water connected to their houses.
