The Volta River Authority has indicated that Ghanaians may have to endure load-shedding till the end of first quarter of this year.
According to the Authority, this is because supply of power has exceeded the demand by consumers.
Some parts of the country are still experiencing erratic power supply as well as load shedding despite various assurances from government that the phenomenon would end soon.
In an interview with Citi News, Samuel Fletcher Head of Cooperate Communication at VRA indicated that �from now till the end of March or early April, we will be going through this erratic situation.
�Unfortunately we don�t wish that it is like but that is what it is� he said.
He noted �there is a need for us to brace ourselves up until the end of March when we would have gas coming in from Nigeria.�
Mr. Fletcher also said �we are currently running on crude oil which is really not sustainable, so when we get gas from Nigeria, then we are going to get immediately an additional 200 mega-watts of power from Asogli.�
He also noted that the commissioning of the Takoradi project would yield about 130 mega-watts in February while the Bui Power Authority is expected to come up with additional 130 mega-watts.
�Now when we have that, then it means that we are going to have that cushion that we need, which is the reserve that we are looking for. So that when a machine breaks down we don�t have to resort to load shedding but we would have a back up that can make up the deficit� he added.
