FDB Arrests Two Persons In Conjunction With The "Teshie Akukofonu" Disposal

Officials of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) in collaboration with the Teshie Police have arrested two persons alleged to be involved in the disposing off of decomposed leg quarters (chicken tie) and wings of chicken on a refuse dump at Teshie on Tuesday. Mr. Samuel Ntiamoah, a resident of Teshie informed Tweneboa Kodua in an interview on Peace FMs morning show programme Kokrokoo that residents of Teshie were rushing on thechicken parts which have been disposed off by some unknown persons. According to him, the residents picked up the rotten or expired chicken parts, and roast them, then sell it to customers at chop bars and frozen foods sellers on the market. He added that it was very bad because the chicken have been disposed off as waste substances and to top it up it was close to the public toilet which was not healthy for human consumption. Mr. Kwame Nsiah Poku, Head of the Animal Product Unit at FDB confirmed the incident on Peace FM midday news bulletin and indicated that with the assistance from the Teshie Divisional Police, they have been able to confiscate about one hundred and fifty(150) of the rotten chicken birds that were collected by the residents. We have also arrested two persons who are going to help us in investigations. It is an offence that expired products be disposed off openly on a refused dump. You have to inform the food and drugs board to verify and then dispose it at the appropriate place; where no one can get access to it. "We are currently looking for the car that disposed off the chicken as well as the cold store that gave the order for the chicken parts to be disposed off without permission from the FDB. "The Teshie Divisional police, Teshie District Assembly as well as the FDB is working hand in hand to get to the root of the issue and we assure the general public that the culprits will be dealt with severely, he indicated.
