Omane Boamah - You Have The Option Of Divorcing Your Service Provider...

Deputy Minister-designate for Communication, Dr. Omane Boamah has advised mobile users to port their numbers anytime they are having difficulty with one mobile network or the other. He said mobile number portability is a system which has been put in place to help users to switch from one network to the other especially when the service providers are underperforming and so users should patronize it. He also added: Roaming services must be applied internally where one can switch to another service provider when they are in a place without network access The government of Ghana in 2011 descended heavily on the telecommunication companies operating in the country. The National Communications Authority (NCA) slapped a fine totaling GH1.2 million on five operating telecommunication companies in the country for providing poor quality services to their clients. The NCAs move to fine the telecom companies, which covered the third quarter of 2011 formed part of the National Communication Authoritys quest to sanction poor quality service delivery offered to clients of the telecommunication operators and also, to ensure that consumers have value for money. Answering questions from members of the Appointment Committee vetting Presidential nominees, on Thursday, the minister designate blamed the poor services provided by the mobile operators on frequent fiber optics cuts by certain individuals. According to him, when given the nod as the Minister of Communication, he will ensure that the situation is brought under control and will also make sure Telecom companies provide their customers with quality services. If you are married to a service provider who is not providing you with the services that you need, do you have the option of divorce? The answer is yes. Because of the good work that the better Ghana Agenda did between 2009 and 2012, there is something in Ghana called Mobile Number Portability. Just in a matter of seven minutes, you can port from one service provider to another he indicated.
