The correspondent of the Ghana News Agency at the 2013 Afcon, Veronica Commey, has denied filing a story which claimed Ghana officials attempted to bribe Ghanaian-born Niger defender Kofi Dankwa before Monday�s final Group B match. According to the said report, Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan met Dankwa prior to the crucial fixture in an attempt to throw the game in favour of the four-time African champions. A statement by the Ghana FA on Thursday hit hard at the GNA sports editor, describing the report as �false, irresponsible, reckless and mischievous.� However, speaking to Goal.com Ghana from South Africa, Ms Commey said she was dismayed to have read the statement on some websites, when Ghana officials could have easily contacted her in SA to establish the author of the purported report. �I really don�t know anything about that story,� Commey said. �It�s quite strange the FA hurried to put a statement out there brandishing my name as trying to put the name of the country into disrepute.� �As a professional journalist, I couldn�t have gone ahead to do such a story without cross-checking my facts. So I expected them to reach me before running to the public to rather soil my name. I�m totally innocent and if it has to take me to go to court to clear my name, then I�m prepared to do so.�
