Sammy Awuku: The Police Had A Wanted List

The Madina Police in Accra may have cautioned and discharged some of the leaders of the pro-NPP pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance after a marathon meeting this afternoon, but it appears two members of the group still have questions to answer. Earlier a member of the LMVCA and an NPP Deputy Director of Communications Sammy Awuku, confirmed that he, together with a couple of others, have been cautioned and discharged by the police. This was after the LMVCA held a public political event last week at Dome Kwabenya, a suburb of Accra, to educate the public on the need for NPP leaders to petition the Supreme Court over alleged electoral fraud in last Decembers presidential vote. The event was, however, not done with the consent of the police and in violation of the Public Order Act. Enraged by the groups action, the Madina Divisional Police Command then invited the leadership of the LMVCA for questioning for holding a public political event without securing police permission. At the meeting today which was attended by National Youth Organiser of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan; Parliamentary Candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the Kintampo North constituency in the 2012 elections, James Kwabena Bomfeh, aka Kabila; as well as Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah and Charles Owusu of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), the police, after several hours, cautioned and discharged them warning them to respect the Public Order Act, but not without drama. Sammy Awuku, who told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese during the airing of OkayFM s afternoon talkshow, Ghana Decides , about the meeting, could not fathom why he and Abu Ramadan had to be bailed before being released though the police claimed he was not under arrest. According to him, the issue of posting bail resulted in a heated argument between the group and the Madina Police.
