IDA supports Ghana with US$38.00 million for Oil and Gas

The International Development Association (IDA) has provided a credit facility of $38 million towards an Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project in Ghana. The project is to improve public management and regulatory capacity while enhancing transparency and strengthening local technical skills in Ghanas emerging Oil and Gas sector. A document obtained by the Ghana News Agency from the Ministry of Energys Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project outfit on Wednesday said the project is to re-organize the Petroleum Directorate of the Ministry of Energy. It will also invigorate the human resource capacity of the Ministry to enable the Petroleum Directorate to fulfil its high level mandate. The document said Government intended to revitalize the Petroleum Directorate (PD) to become a vibrant policy development and technical advisory centre to formulate policies, and provide technical advice and supervisory functions for all Oil and Gas related issues in Ghana. It said it would take into account the functions of the Petroleum Commission so that the PD only manages areas and functions relevant to its core Ministry mandate.
