The National Youth Organizer of People�s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, has warned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government that any attempt to increase fuel price or to withdraw subsidies on fuel will result in a massive street protest that will rock the foundation of the nation.
According to him, it will be very difficult for Ghanaians to accept any upward adjustment in fuel price at this point where poverty is high and living conditions are extremely unbearable.
The PNC National Youth Organizer conjectured that it is likely government might increase prices of petroleum products to about 20% or 30% which invariably will have an effect fares, foodstuffs and other utility bills, eventhough salaries of workers� have not been increased.
He added that Ghanaians are finding it difficult to access portable drinking water and businesses are barely breaking even due to the irrational power supply as such any form of fuel price increment will result in an uproar, saying "we will not sit down and watch when we know that the managers of our resources are not doing their work".
�This government (NDC) and the CJA went on a demonstration because of a 4 pesewa increase in fuel prices when they were in opposition...i wonder what could have caused the shift in goal-post regarding government�s intended removal of fuel subsidies,� he said.
The leading member of �Let My Vote Count Alliance� urged government to act strategically regarding the withdrawal of fuel subsidies, and rather suggested that the intended subsidy removal should be done in such a way that the vulnerable in society will not feel its pinch.
Commenting on the issue as a panelist on PeaceFM�s Morning Show, �Kokrokoo�, Abu Ramadan said it is unfortunate that government is making no effort to retrieve the judgement debt monies paid to Alfred Agbesi Woyome, which could go a long way to support the economy and mitigate the suffering of Ghanaians and is rather considering removing subsidies on fuel.
