The Commanding officer of the 4th infantry Battalion in Kumasi, Lt. Col Stephen Kwabena Parbey has indicated that they would not relent on their efforts to find those behind last week�s attack on the soldiers. According to him the attack would not deter them (soldiers) in continuing to provide security at the Koniyaw forest reserve. Officers of the 4th infantry battalion in Kumasi, on an operation to evacuate illegal miners who had taken over Koniyaw Forest Reserve in the Bekwai Municipality were ambushed by the miners who left two officers seriously wounded. Staff Sergeant Christopher Tanieh, one of the wounded soldiers, who led the military officers in that operation, is on admission and in critical condition at the Okomfo Anokye teaching hospital. In an interview with Citi News Lt Colonel, Kwabena Parbey indicated that the harrowing experience has strengthened their resolve to flush out the illegal miners at the forest reserve. He indicated that the police have a task to protect all forestry officials who go about their lawful duty in the various forest reserves in the district and elsewhere. �So once this thing has happened, and two of our men are seriously injured we need to replace those two as we continue investigations to find the culprits who are involved in it� he said.
