Prez Mahama: Media Development Fund Will Be Operationalized This Year

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the media that the GH�1 million Media Development Fund will be operationalized this year. Addressing the sixth parliament of the republic of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama, wore the shoes of his predecessor, late Prof Mills and promised to continue with the work the he (late former President) started. He said he will ensure that the MDF will be operationalized this year. �The newly established media development fund aimed at improving capacity within the media will be operationalized this year�We shall also support the National media commission to enact the needed regulations that will establish an organisational framework and standard to ensure balance, fairness, access, opportunity and objectivity in the media,"he assured. The government of Ghana led by former President John Evans Atta Mills voted GH�1 million for the establishment of a Media Development Fund(MDF) in the country. The then Minister of Finance and Economic Planning,Dr. Kwabena Duffour announced this when he presented the 2012 Budget statement to Parliament in 2011. Earlier, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) had advocated for the establishment of the Fund to support media development in the country.
