Sports Minister Tells Satellites: The Spirit of Atta Mills And All Past Presidents Are Behind You

Newly appointed Sports Minister,Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has assured the national under-20 team, the Black Satellites of government support during their stay in Italy for their pre-tournament training prior to the African Youth tourney in Algeria. “The government will do its best to provide whatever you need as you go for your training camp, but you must remain focused, you must know that the whole Ghana is behind you, the President is behind you, we are (the Ministry) behind you, the GFA is behind you, your families are behind you and take advantage of this opportunity and make yourselves and the nation proud,” he said. Speaking to the team before their departure to Italy on Wednesday , the Sports Minister turned ‘Pastor’, reframed the Bible verse; “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things shall be added unto you” to advice the players. “The Bible says Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things shall be added, I am saying that seek ye first the football kingdom, if you go and perform well and you excel, everything will be chasing you waa waa waa. It’s a privilege and an honor to don the national colours. It is only the president when he goes for an event and arrives they play the national anthem and everybody stands at attention. “.. You must be serious, you must be focused and you must know that the whole country” he said. The Minister however proclaimed to the youngsters the guardians of past Presidents spirits to back them to emerge victors. “The spirit of this country, the spirit of Osagyefo, the spirit of Atta Mills, the spirit of Kufuor, the spirit of John Dramani Mahama, the spirit of all of us, we are behind you and you must go and come back with victory,” he urged them. The 24-man squad of the national under-20 are in Italy for a pre-tournament training ahead of the African Under-20 championship which will be held in Algeria this month.
