Last Batch Of Members To The Council Of State Sworn - In

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in three members of the Council of State, with a call on the advisory body to be open and frank with him. He asked members of the council to tell him the truth at all times and help him discharge his responsibilities in the interest of the nation. The members were a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP); Mr Christopher Kobla Dewornu, a former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Seth Kofi Obeng, and Nana Osei Asibey II, Otumfuo Deebuosohene from the Manyhia Palace. Last week, the President swore in 21 elected and non-elected members of the Council of State. The swearing-in of the three members, therefore, brings to 24 the members of the council. Article 89 of the Constitution requires the President to nominate a former IGP, a former CDS and a former Chief of Staff to the council, in consultation with Parliament. In compliance with that provision, the President communicated the names of the former CDS and the former IGP to Parliament, which subsequently approved the nominees. President Mahama said Mr Dewornu, Gen Obeng and Nana Asibey were experienced individuals who could bring their experience to bear on the work of the council. Mr Dewornu, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them. He gave an assurance that they would support the President with the needed counsel to implement his better Ghana agenda.
