Finance Minister: Gov't Determined To Realign Expenditure

Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper has indicated that government is determined to straighten its expenditure as well as stop the delays of governmental projects in the country. He made this known at Tuesdays presentation of the 2013 budget and economic policy statement of government to Parliament. The budget statement focused on the stabilization of the economy, infrastructure development and accelerating growth. According to the Finance Minister, government will streamline and reduce its expenditure through �prudent expenditure management, increase in national output and domestic resource mobilisation�. �The policies outlined in this budget seek to sustain confidence in the future of the Ghanaian economy. We will continue to fashion pragmatic policies to correct imbalances that threaten our economic aspirations...we are determined to realign expenditure especially on non-funded projects through prudent expenditure management, increase in national output and domestic resource mobilisation,� he said. He also stated government�s commitment to continue with projects that seeks the welfare of the vulnerable in the society. Mr. Seth Terkper urged Ghanaians to avoid every sort of blame game and work together to overcome the challenges that the country is facing currently, adding; �we all stand to benefit from the opportunities that will be created�. He promised to keep an open mind and remain receptive to good advice that will help advance the goal of attaining a higher middle income status. �We are determined to avoid the phenomenon of long delays in completing government projects. We will adopt a self-financing strategy for commercial projects. We are determined to continue with the measures and programmes that give effect to our commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable members of our society through allocation of resources to our poverty alleviation programmes... "We have managed to push the economy unto a higher growth trajectory...we need to maintain these successes through appropriate policy responses to address challenges that will confront our forward march. Indeed the better Ghana Agenda continuous to be advanced unabated...� he asserted.
