Our Words and Actions Can Destroy the Progress of the Nation

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has on the 56th anniversary celebration on Ghanas Independence Day counseled that Ghanaians should guard against their words and actions since that can hinder the progress of the nation. He urged that all Ghanaians must work together as a team and also remember that words we speak as a nation has have an effect on the nation; in that President Mahama cautioned all Ghanaians to speak success and envision and work toward achieving it, since failure words will kill any inspiration and believe needed for ensuring success. President Mahama therefore advised Ghanaians that every action has a long and short term repercussions on the nation and the only way to stop them is to guard against them since failure to do so can endanger the progress of the country. He reiterated that in order to improve the public services, people cannot pay and collect bribes; adding that as a nation the only way to cease crime is to close markets created for the purchase of stolen items. He urged that Ghana cannot go back to yesterday and thread on the ground which it has already covered; adding that we cannot go back and fight the battle we have already won...and expect that our country will still somehow magically prosper. President Mahama again said that when time, attention and the media are devoted to these distractions in the country, the progress of the nation which was built with the blood, tears and sweat of our forefathers and mothers will be undermined. According to President Mahama, governance is a shared responsibility and government can and will provide the necessary social and economic infrastructure and incentives, but he quickly added that; unless we take collective ownership of the challenge that face us and unless we demonstrate a strong desire and unflinching commitment to be part of the solution, most of our efforts will come to nothing. He therefore advised that each and everyone has a responsibility to play; in that every meaningful and constructive contribution should geared toward the growth and betterment of this nation since as a country we owe that much to ourselves and to our children who will inherit this landwe owe that much to all those who fought for us to have a place to claim as our own and call it Ghana.
