Kokombas And Bemobas Conflict: The Need For Pragmatic Solution And Not Rhetoric

A Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has called for a pragmatic way of solving conflicts in the three Regions of the north. Owusu-Bempah was speaking to the recent conflict between the Kokombas and Bemobas in Kpemale in the Bunkperigu Yoyoo district of the Northern Region. The fight which ensued on the day Ghana was celebrating its 56th Independence Anniversary, was over a piece of land. Several houses were been burnt leaving many families homeless. The security services managed to maintain calmness in the region. However, on Sunday another conflict ensued between the same groups leading to the death of one person. Investigations are currently ongoing to ascertain the cause of this recent tension. Speaking to the issue, on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo with host Kwami Sefa-Kayi, Owusu-Bempah said; if care is not taken, it will escalate into something else. We need to find a lasting solution to it and not just mere rhetoric. It is disappointing that at this 21st century people will be fighting over land and other issues. We need solid measures to be used in solving this issue once and for all...all these quarrels are bringing our country back, he said. He has also expressed disappointment at the Chiefs of Kokomba and Bemoba for failing to bring peace between the two sects. According to him, they should have spoken to their people to let sleeping dogs lie.
